Joseph Anderson was motivated to join an elite group of hurdlers that included Johnathan Cabral and Kevin Craddock at the CIF State Championships.

The Upland senior responded by delivering one of the most impressive doubles in history, setting a state record in the 110-meter hurdles and improving to No. 7 all-time in California in the 300 hurdles Saturday at Buchanan High's Veterans Memorial Stadium.

After overcoming its biggest hurdle by not qualifying in the 4x100 relay prelims Friday, Rancho Verde was both efficient and exceptional Saturday, reaching the biggest goal in program history by capturing its first boys team title with a 49-29 victory over Oaks Christian.

Isaiah Cunningham won the 200 in a wind-aided 21.07 seconds, with teammate Rasaun House finishing eighth in 21.84, and the Mustangs captured the 4x400 relay title in 3:14.46 to produce the fifth-highest team score in boys state history. Cunningham also took third in the 100 in a wind-aided 10.37.

Anderson, an Oregon signee, ran a wind-legal 13.33 to become the eighth male athlete to repeat in the 110 hurdles and eclipse the 2011 mark of 13.36 set by Cabral, a former Agoura and Oregon standout, at the USATF Junior Outdoor Championships. His lifetime-best 36.02 in the 300 hurdles helped him become the sixth individual to win both titles in the same year, including Craddock, a James Logan graduate.

Cameron Samuel took second to Anderson in both races, clocking 13.78 and 36.34, in addition to anchoring Rancho Verde's 4x400 relay to a come-from-behind victory against Roosevelt (3:14.89).

Bryan Thompson placed third in the long jump for Rancho Verde with a final-round leap of 23-11 (7.28m), with St. Mary's Berkeley senior Sanjay Kettels winning the competition on his last jump with a wind-legal 24-3.75 (7.41m) to prevail over Tri-City Christian senior Matthew DeRoos 24-2 (7.36m).

Vista Murrieta senior Javelin Guidry won the 100 in a wind-aided 10.13, the fastest time under all conditions in state history and Sierra Canyon junior Daniel Kamulali took second in 10.33.

Oaks Christian won the 4x100 relay for the first time since 2011, with Nick Moore, Christian Moore and Myles Webb teaming with freshman Bryce Farrell to prevail in 40.95. The Moore brothers followed sister Schuyler and Webb joined sister Miah -- both members of the Lions' 2015 4x100 girls state championship lineup -- in winning the relay title.

Redondo Union senior Tate Curran cleared 16-10 (5.13m) in the pole vault to join uncle Tim (1973) and Anthony (1977-78) -- both champions at Crespi -- by winning a state title.

San Luis Obispo senior Callum Bolger followed his Division 4 state cross country crown in November by winning the 3,200 title in 8:53.91, holding off 1,600 winner Luis Grijalva of Armijo in 8:54.65 and defending champion Cooper Teare of St. Joseph Notre Dame in 8:55.93.

Grijalva won the 1,600 in 4:08.62, with Claremont teammates Owen Bishop (4:09.74) and Ryan Renken (4:11.02) taking second and third.

Damien senior Zach Shinnick returned from a hamstring injury last year to win the 400 in 46.12.

Heritage junior Jett Charvet won the 800 in 1:51.07, holding off Bellarmine Prep's Alex Scales (1:51.56) and Bakersfield Highland's Moises Medrano (1:51.67).

Trabuco Hills junior Sean Lee cleared 6-11 (2.10m) to win the high jump title after finishing in a three-way tie at 7 feet, but missing out on the championship based on more misses last year.

Senior Jonah Wilson became Clovis' first boys state champion in any event, winning the shot put with a mark of 66-2.75 (20.18m) after placing third in the discus with a throw of 198-2 (60.40m).

Pittsburg senior Iffy Joyner, fifth in the shot put at 59-9, won the discus title with a fifth-round throw of 203-8 (62.07m).

Great Oak junior CJ Stevenson won the triple jump championship with a third-round leap of 49-7.75 (15.13m) to complete an unbeaten season.
