Here is a list of 10 of the most anticipated events Friday and Saturday at the 97th CIF State Championships:

Girls 3,200 meters (8:46 p.m. Saturday)
For the first time in an individual race this season, Davis Senior's Fiona O'Keeffe and Great Oak's Destiny Collins -- ranked No. 6 and No. 17 all-time in the state -- will square off in what could be one of the most memorable distance clashes in California prep history. Collins won the Southern Section Masters in 10:11.64, only to have O'Keeffe respond a short time later at the Sac-Joaquin Section Masters with a 10:00.85. The only time two female athletes have run under 10 minutes in the same race in California was during the 2008 state final when Jordan Hasay defeated Laurynne Chetelat 9:52.13 to 9:52.51. Expect Palisades' Marissa Williams, Saugus' Samantha Ortega, McKinleyville's Morgin Coonfield, Malibu's Caroline Pietrzyk and Campolindo's Brighie Leach and Toni Finnane to be in contention for the remaining podium spots.

Boys 800 meters (8 p.m. Saturday)
Six athletes in the field have run under under 1:52 and are separated by six-tenths of a second, which could make for a mad dash to the finish. Clovis' Connor Morello has lost three times by one-hundredth, including last year's state final, giving him plenty of motivation to cap his career with a championship. Bakersfield Centennial's Isaac Trevino has been the most consistent all season and, along with Great Oak's Isaac Cortes, possesses great closing speed. Roseville's Arturo Sotomayor, Los Alamitos' Thomas Heib and Temescal Canyon's Cobie Chavez are all capable of challenging for the title.

Girls 100-meter dash (7:31 p.m. Saturday)
It's Zaria Francis vs. Lauren Rain Williams, part 5. Francis, a Rio Mesa junior, and Williams, an Oaks Christian sophomore, have split the first four head-to-head races and should be side by side in the final. Williams won the first matchup at the Arcadia Invitational, Francis responded with victories at the Mt. SAC Relays and Ventura County Championships, then Williams prevailed at the Southern Section Masters meet. It could be a Ventura County sweep of the top three spots, with St. Bonaventure's Celera Barnes and Oaks Christian's Schuyler Moore also looking to medal.

Boys 3,200 meters (9:03 p.m. Saturday)
Saugus' Brian Zabilski made a major statement with his U.S. No. 5 8:49.38 to win the Southern Section Masters meet, but duplicating that effort won't be easy in the final. Big Bear's Caleb Webb, Loyola's Robert Brandt, Madera South's Eduardo "Lalo" Herrera, Saratoga's Steven Sum, Anaheim Canyon's Wesley Walsh and Great Oak's Cole Spencer have all run 8:59 or faster and St. Margaret's Collin Price ran 9 minutes flat at the Masters meet, so there are plenty of challengers for Zabilski, who is attempting to become Saugus' first male state track champion since 1986.

Girls Long Jump (7 p.m. Saturday)
Redlands' Margaux Jones will try to become the first repeat state champion in the event since Clovis' Jenna Prandini in 2010-11, but she'll have to defeat 2013 winner Courtney Corrin of Harvard-Westlake and two rising talents in Agoura's Tara Davis and St. Mary's Berkeley's Ma'ane Mosley in order to do so. Jones won the title on her last jump last year and it could come down to the final round again with four jumpers entering with wind-legal 20-foot efforts.

Boys Triple Jump (7 p.m. Saturday)
No athlete in the field has reached 50 feet yet, but that could change in the final, with six individuals having surpassed 48 feet. Kingsburg's Seth Brooks produced a wind-legal state-leading 49-9 3/4 at the Central Section Masters, but expect Vista Murrieta's CJ Alumbres, St. Mary's Berkeley's Ron Smith, Stuart Hall's Drew Xandrine-Anderson, Oakmont's Isaiah Holmes and Oceanside's Jordan Miller to all be in medal contention. In the past three years and four times since 2009 has the state champion surpassed 50 feet.

Girls 4 x 400 relay (9:28 p.m. Saturday)
Six teams that have run the fastest time in the state at some point this season could all line up together on the track with a potential team championship at stake for Oaks Christian or Roosevelt. St. Mary's Berkeley boasts the top time at 3:43.97 from the North Coast Meet of Champions, but Roosevelt won the Southern Section Division 1 title in 3:44.76, Oaks Christian clocked 3:45.62 to prevail at the Southern Section Masters meet and Carondelet won the Sacramento Meet of Champions with a 3:46.24 effort, creating the potential for a thrilling finale.

Boys High Jump (5 p.m. Saturday)
Carter's Eric Moore became the first state champion to clear 7 feet since 2009 with his performance last season and at least three athletes have the potential to match that feat in this year's final. Oakmont's Isaiah Holmes, Lemoore's Michael Burke and St. Francis Mountain View's Darius Thomas have all cleared 7 feet this season with Mt. Pleasant's Darius Carbin at 6-11, setting the stage for an impressive battle to decide the championship.

Girls 800 meters (7:50 p.m. Saturday)
A race with plenty of historical significance as Clovis North senior Mikaela Smith will attempt to become the fourth female in state history to win three consecutive titles. Ann Regan of San Jose Camden (1977-79) was the first, followed by Placer's Lindsay Hyatt (1996-99) and most recently Harvard-Westlake's Amy Weissenbach (2010-12), who set the National Federation High School record by clocking 2:02.04 in 2011. No Central Section athlete has won more than two titles in the event, the most recent being Central's Kristie Johnson in 1994-95. Smith ran a lifetime-best 2:06.85 to win last season and will need to approach that time to hold off Buchanan's Hannah Benoit-Bucher and Rancho Bernardo's Nia Akins.

Boys 4 x 400 relay (9:38 p.m. Saturday)
Vista Murrieta might already have the team title wrapped up before the final event, but the Broncos will still be motivated to cap their championship run in impressive fashion. Michael Norman could be pursuing four gold medals as Vista Murrieta's anchor, looking to improve upon the team's state-leading 3:13.09 from the Southern Section Division 1 finals. Long Beach Wilson, Roosevelt, Notre Dame and Cathedral are all capable of running under 3:14 and making the podium, since the top four teams from last season are all not returning, although Long Beach Wilson's Mar'yea Harris was the anchor on Long Beach Poly's championship lineup last year.
