Buchanan coach Brian Weaver, in his 28th season with the Bears, reflects on the program's first girls state team championship with 50 points at Veterans Memorial Stadium. Following a fourth-place team finish in 2015 and fifth-place result in 2016, Buchanan managed a combined eight points the past two years to place 42nd and 64th overall. The Bears also crowned their third individual state champion in program history, with senior Shelby Daniele winning the 200-meter final in 23.73 seconds, joining boys 3,200 winner Kyle Alcorn in 2002 and girls 400 champ Hannah Waller in 2015.
