Brenden Song excelling in track and field isn’t all that surprising. It’s in his genes.

“My grandpa (Kyong) went to the 1952 Olympics in Helsinki in the hammer throw,” said Song, the West Hills High senior who is the leader in the discus heading into the State Championships on Friday and Saturday in Clovis.

“He competed for Korea. My dad (Kio) was a hammer thrower at Point Loma Nazarene.”
